The York County Board of Supervisors last week approved a resolution to join a regional agreement with Hampton, Newport News and Poquoson to operate the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter. The four localities are joining together to operate the shelter aft er the SPCA backed out of a contract to serve the localities because the group no longer wanted to euthanize animals brought to the shelter. 19

Operation Christmas Child, a charitable effort that delivers shoe boxes filled with gifts, school supplies, toys and hygiene items for children overseas, is collecting filled shoe boxes through Monday, Nov. 19 at six area locations.
